Is Vedic Astrology More Accurate Than Western?
The honest answer starts with what each system is actually measuring, not which one wins.
This question gets asked constantly, and most answers pick a side without explaining the actual technical difference underneath it. Here's the honest version, including the part where astrology as a whole hasn't been validated by controlled scientific study, in either system.
The Real Difference Isn't Philosophy, It's Astronomy
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasons, where 0 degrees Aries is fixed to the spring equinox every year. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the actual visible constellations. These two zodiacs used to align roughly two thousand years ago. They don't anymore, because of a slow wobble in Earth's rotational axis called precession, and the gap between them, currently around 24 degrees, keeps growing by about one degree every 72 years.
That gap means the same birth date can land in a different sign depending on which zodiac is used. Someone tropically classified as Aries can be sidereally classified as Pisces. Neither calculation is wrong, they're measuring against different reference points on purpose, one against the seasons, one against the stars.
So "more accurate" isn't really a well-formed question here, since accuracy implies both systems are trying to measure the same thing and one is doing it better. They're not. They're built on different premises about what the zodiac should be anchored to, and the fair comparison is which framework's interpretive tradition resonates more, not which one is factually correct, since neither claim has been settled by outside verification. Reading a chart both ways, tropical and sidereal, is a genuinely useful exercise for seeing what each lens actually emphasizes.
