The 27 nakshatras divide the zodiac into equal segments of 13°20’ each. Your birth nakshatra is determined by the Moon’s position at birth and is one of the most personal placements in a chart.
Why nakshatras matter

The nakshatra cycle
Section titled “The nakshatra cycle”Nakshatras follow the Moon’s path through the zodiac. Each has:
- A ruling planet (nakshatra lord)
- A deity (devata)
- A symbol and gana (temperament class)
- Specific padas (quarters) linking to navamsha
Examples

- Rohini — beauty, growth, material abundance; ruled by the Moon
- Magha — ancestral pride, authority; ruled by Ketu
- Revati — compassion, completion, safe journeys; ruled by Mercury
Using nakshatras in daily life
Section titled “Using nakshatras in daily life”Today’s panchang lists the current nakshatra. Certain activities are favored or avoided depending on which nakshatra is active — this is central to muhurat and choghadiya timing.
