How to calculate your life path number by hand
A life path number is built entirely from your birth date, reduced down until you reach a single digit — unless you land on one of the three master numbers, 11, 22, or 33, which are kept whole. The cleanest way to do it is to reduce the month, day, and year separately, then add those three results together and reduce once more.
Step by step
- Write your birth date as month, day, year.
- Reduce the month to a single digit (months are already 1–12, so a two-digit month like 11 or 12 is either kept as a master number or reduced: 12 becomes 1+2=3).
- Reduce the day to a single digit or master number (e.g. 29 becomes 2+9=11, which stays as 11).
- Reduce the year to a single digit or master number (e.g. 1990 becomes 1+9+9+0=19, then 1+9=10, then 1+0=1).
- Add the three reduced results together.
- Reduce that sum, unless it is already 11, 22, or 33.
Worked example
Take a birth date of November 29, 1990:
- Month: 11 → kept as a master number, 11
- Day: 29 → 2+9 = 11 → kept as a master number, 11
- Year: 1990 → 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1+0 = 1
- Sum: 11 + 11 + 1 = 23 → 2+3 = 5
