Calculate Your Expression Number
Your Expression Number (also called your Destiny Number) reveals your natural talents, abilities, and how you express yourself in the world. It shows what the universe gave you to work with.
It’s calculated from your full legal birth name—all the names you were given at birth, including middle names.
The Pythagorean Number-Letter Chart
Section titled “The Pythagorean Number-Letter Chart”First, you need the letter-to-number mapping:

The pattern: A-I = 1-9, J-R = 1-9, S-Z = 1-8 (then repeats).
Step 1: Write Your Full Birth Name
Section titled “Step 1: Write Your Full Birth Name”Use your complete legal name as it appears on your birth certificate.
Example: SARAH MARIE JOHNSON
Not just “Sarah.” Not your married name if you’ve changed it. Your original birth name.
(If you go by a nickname or changed your name legally, you can also calculate those to see how they compare.)
Step 2: Assign Numbers to Each Letter
Section titled “Step 2: Assign Numbers to Each Letter”Using the chart above, write the number above each letter.

Step 3: Add All the Numbers
Section titled “Step 3: Add All the Numbers”Add every single number you wrote.
1 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 8 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 + 1 + 6 + 8 + 5 + 1 + 6 + 5 = 80
Step 4: Reduce to a Single Digit
Section titled “Step 4: Reduce to a Single Digit”Add the digits of your total until you reach a single digit (or a master number 11, 22, 33).
80 → 8 + 0 = 8
Expression Number = 8
Another Example

69 → 6 + 9 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6
Expression Number = 6
Master Number Check
Section titled “Master Number Check”If your total reduces to 11, 22, or 33, keep it as is.

But if someone’s total was 29: 29 → 2 + 9 = 11 (master number, keep it)

The Expression Numbers and Their Meanings

2 — Diplomatic partner. You express yourself through listening, balancing, and bringing peace.
3 — Creative communicator. You express yourself through art, writing, speaking, and joy.
4 — Practical builder. You express yourself through structure, stability, and tangible creation.
5 — Versatile adventurer. You express yourself through variety, freedom, and exploring.
6 — Nurturing helper. You express yourself through care, beauty, and service.
7 — Spiritual seeker. You express yourself through introspection, wisdom, and spirituality.
8 — Ambitious achiever. You express yourself through power, business, and material accomplishment.
9 — Humanitarian healer. You express yourself through compassion, healing, and helping others.
11 — Spiritual messenger. Your expression is about vision, inspiration, and raising consciousness.
22 — Master manifester. Your expression is about taking big ideas and building them into reality.
33 — Universal teacher. Your expression is about healing and teaching on a large scale.
Practical Example
Section titled “Practical Example”Sarah (from above) has:
- Life Path 1 (leader, pioneer)
- Expression 8 (ambitious achiever)
Together: Sarah is a leader (1) who expresses herself through achievement and building (8). She might be an executive, entrepreneur, or CEO—someone who leads boldly and builds things that matter.
Her natural talents are leadership and business acumen. The universe gave her the ability to take charge and build wealth.
What If You Changed Your Name?
Section titled “What If You Changed Your Name?”If you legally changed your name (marriage, personal choice), calculate both:

Your birth name — This is your Life Path expression. It’s your soul’s original blueprint.

Your current name — This shows how you’re expressing yourself now. Some numerologists believe a name change can shift your energy.
Usually, the birth name resonates more deeply. But many people feel their married name fits them perfectly—numerology often confirms this.
Soul Urge Number (Bonus)
Section titled “Soul Urge Number (Bonus)”While you’re working with your name, you can also calculate your Soul Urge Number using only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U):
