Calculate Your Life Path Number

Your Life Path Number is your most important numerological number. It reveals your overall life direction, natural talents, and the path your soul wants to walk.

It’s calculated from your birth date. Even if nothing else in numerology clicks for you, this number will feel true.

Add your birth month + birth day + birth year, then reduce to a single digit (or master number).

That’s it. Let’s break it down step by step.

Write your birth date in this format: Month / Day / Year

Example: March 15, 1990 Becomes: 3 / 15 / 1990

Or: November 22, 1987 Becomes: 11 / 22 / 1987

Now reduce each part to a single digit.

Month is already single digit if it’s 1-9 (January through September).

  • If your month is October (10), add: 1 + 0 = 1
  • If November (11), add: 1 + 1 = 2
  • If December (12), add: 1 + 2 = 3

Day may need reducing.

  • If your day is 1-9, keep it.
  • If 10 or higher, add the digits.
    • 15 becomes 1 + 5 = 6
    • 22 becomes 2 + 2 = 4
    • 29 becomes 2 + 9 = 11 (this is a master number—keep it)

Year always needs reducing. Add all digits.

  • 1990 becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1
  • 1987 becomes 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 25, then 2 + 5 = 7
  • 2001 becomes 2 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 3

Add the reduced month + reduced day + reduced year.

Example 1: March 15, 1990 Month: 3 Day: 1 + 5 = 6 Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1

Total: 3 + 6 + 1 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1

Life Path Number = 1

Example 2: November 22, 1987 Month: 1 + 1 = 2 Day: 2 + 2 = 4 (or you could keep 22 as a master number and use 22) Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 25 → 2 + 5 = 7

Total: 2 + 4 + 7 = 13 → 1 + 3 = 4

Life Path Number = 4

(Note: Some numerologists would calculate this as 2 + 22 + 7 = 31 → 3 + 1 = 4, still arriving at 4.)

If your total is 11, 22, or 33, stop. Don’t reduce further.

Example: Someone born May 29, 1992 Month: 5 Day: 2 + 9 = 11 (master number, keep it) Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21 → 2 + 1 = 3

Total: 5 + 11 + 3 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1

Life Path Number = 1

(The 11 in the day becomes just another number in the calculation. It doesn’t stay as 11 unless the final total is 11, 22, or 33.)

Another example: Someone born February 11, 1992 Month: 2 Day: 1 + 1 = 2 Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21 → 2 + 1 = 3

Total: 2 + 2 + 3 = 7

Life Path Number = 7

(Again, the 11 in the day is reduced to 2 for the overall calculation.)

But someone born November 20, 1984: Month: 1 + 1 = 2 Day: 2 + 0 = 2 Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 22 (master number, keep it)

Total: 2 + 2 + 22 = 26 → 2 + 6 = 8

Life Path Number = 8

(The 22 from the year gets added, but the final total isn’t a master number, so it reduces to 8.)

Finally, someone born November 11, 2002: Month: 1 + 1 = 2 Day: 1 + 1 = 2 Year: 2 + 0 + 0 + 2 = 4

Total: 2 + 2 + 4 = 8

Life Path Number = 8

What if I was born at 11:59 PM on one date and my hospital records say the next day?

Use whichever date feels true to you. Your numerological number should resonate. If it doesn’t, try the other date.

Do I use my birth name or current name?

For Life Path, it doesn’t matter—Life Path comes only from birth date. For Expression Number (from your name), you use your full birth name.

What if the date is different in different cultures or calendars?

Use the date in the calendar system you use daily (Gregorian, for most of the world).

Can I change my Life Path number?

No. It’s fixed from birth. But you can grow into it or learn to express it more fully.
